Bratislava, Slovakia is home to the yearly By Design Conference. It unifies design and business through speeches from top creatives, all of whom have experience in successful and well-known campaigns. Our designer Andreea Bora took the opportunity to attend the conference and present her own points of interest to us.

Editorial designer Mark Porter worked on the redesign of both The Guardian and RTL Niews of the Netherlands. The modern RTL logo was inspired by the most common way to view the news today - a smartphone. Each letter mimics the angles and thin shape of smartphone frames. He wanted to give the news station a digital makeover to match the current consumer trends in news media.

Some other famous names and faces included Jonathan Lee from Google and partners from Mucho Studio. Creative Director Jonathan Lee rebranded Google to its playful yet serious image that we recognize today. He also initiated Google Design as a way to connect designers across many different platforms. Mucho Studio is responsible for the ubiquitous Wallpaper City Guides that showcase the hippest attractions that each particular city has to offer.

Finally, Hartmut Esslinger. His accomplishments are numerous, but some of the most noteable include his founding of Frog Design and his early work with Apple. He is responsible for the “Snow White” design language of their earlier products, which Steve Jobs originally felt unsure about. His approach often scares his clients, but has panned out time and time again. He was quoted at By Design saying, “What people want is not what they want, as a designer it is your job to dream bigger for them.”

Creative Breakfasts at Cocoon just keep getting more and more inspiring. There is always a lot to learn from our colleagues and peers, regardless of their background or field of work. We are excited to host even more speakers for our weekly Creative Breakfasts!
